Usually, you can only enroll in health insurance during a special time of year called Open Enrollment. It runs from October 15th to December 7th and if you don’t get covered during this period, you’ll likely have to wait a full year before you can get insurance. There are a few exceptions to this rule, though. If you experience a special life event —moving from your service area, obtaining medicaid, leaving your group insurance—you may qualify to get coverage outside of Open Enrollment.
